Universal Children´s Day

United Nations Universal Children’s Day was established in 1954 and is celebrated on November 20th each year to promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide, and improving children's welfare.

November 20th is an important date as it is the date in 1959 when the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child. It is also the date in 1989 when the UN General assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child

The Declaration of the Rights of the Child lays down ten principles (2):

1. The right to equality, without distinction on account of race, religion or national origin.

2. The right to special protection for the child’s physical, mental and social development.

3. The right to a name and a nationality.

4. The right to adequate nutrition, housing and medical services.

5. The right to special education and treatment when a child is physically or mentally handicapped.

6. The right to understanding and love by parents and society.

7. The right to recreational activities and free education.

8. The right to be among the first to receive relief in all circumstances.

9. The right to protection against all forms of neglect, cruelty and exploitation.

10. The right to be brought up in a spirit of understanding, tolerance, friendship among peoples, and universal brotherhood.

Those are the Universal Children´s rights, but for Children Salvery you can check the BBC. Children in pour world are forced to beg, forced to work, are forced to have sex  . . .

Leonard Cohen has left us!

Leonard Cohen has left us today. He has died in Los Angeles after publishing his last album just last month.

First we take Manhattan . . .  Then we take Berlin

The influential Canadian singer and songwriter was also an acclaimed poet and novelist during a career spanning five decades.

You can read the BBC Obituary and learn more about Leonard Cohen, his work and life , his music and his literary work. The Washington Post gives you a lot of information about him as well.

But for a more vivid record of Leonard Cohen we would like to share with you his speech of Acceptance of the Pricipe de Asturias award he recived in 2014.
